Weekly Wrap UP

It has been a busy week as usual with 2 field trips scheduled and the local homeschooling expo begins today so coop was on spring break, so we decided to go on spring break too, sort of:)1

Monday the kids and I visited the Federal court building downtown and learn a tons about the court system.  The kids met a judge, prosecuting attorney, a clerk and a secret service agent.

Tuesday  we spent the day at Junior Achievement Bizztown and had a fabulous day learning about business and the economy.  I will be doing a post later about this but if there is one in your area, I highly recommend it!

Wednesday thru Friday we stayed at home and tried a new system of homeschooling called experience based learning.  If I just let the kids have free time, they only want to play on their electronics and fight, so I have been learning and researching this new system and while I don't think it would work long term, it proved to be very good for our spring break system and I will be incorporating it in future school breaks!

Basically I listed 10 things that the kids needed to complete during the day and they had the ability to chose what and when they accomplished their tasks.  Each item needed to be done for a minimum of 30 minutes.  The only 'School' I insisted they continue was Piano practice, math, and a mine craft course.  The reward for completing the chart was electronic time!  When I discussed how the week went with the kids last night, even they said the days went faster and they enjoyed the freedom the system brought to them.  I will be writing a more detailed post about this system soon.

This weekend I will be attending the local homeschool expo and have signed up for a lot of how to homeschool thru the homeschool years as that is only 1 year away, yikes!!!

Hope you are having a fabulous week!

  1. Very cool idea. Can't wait to see your post on the "interest" led learning.
