I Remember.....

September 11th

My husband was getting ready for work and I was still in bed when I felt our unborn child's kick for the first time. We both went to work excited about the future. I was sitting in a meeting at the hospital discussing patients that had been admitted the night before when someone came in and said a plane had hit one of the towers. A TV was brought in and we crowded around it trying to make sense of the madness. My husband worked in DC at the time and for a few hours I couldn't reach him and I was worried. He finally called to let me know he was OK. That night we were glued to the TV watching and listening to the news report. At some point I said I couldn't watch it any more and we went to bed.

Today I took my children to the memorial Ceremony on base.

Ringing of the bell

Color guard

The Laying of the wreaths

Ending with 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps.

I am taking time today to remember the lives lost and the men and women today who are still fighting to defend our freedoms.

  1. Its something no one will forget, on either side of the planet. It happened in the middle of the night our time, we woke the next morning, put on the TV and saw the horror. Of course we thought it was some new blockbuster disaster mover...after all in our innocence it was incomprehensible that anything like this could ever happen.10 years is a long time, its still so raw really.

  2. It is especially poignant for families of members of the armed forces, police and firefighters. I see the faces of those brave men and women and just weep. Thank you for sharing.

  3. We do need to remember all of those who have given their life for the freedoms we enjoy. I will always remember that day also.
I am assuming that you are a nurse. I am a nurse; but haven't practised for a few years.
Blessings to you for sharing the thoughts an the pictures.

  5. 9/11 was so surreal for me. I had the flu so was sleeping as late as I could, plus we lived on the west coast, so everything happened in very early our time. By the time I heard about anything, they pretty much knew what was what. I never went through any of the confusion of not knowing how a plane could crash into a building, much less two planes. Bush was already on Air Force One and so forth. It was so weird to wake up and to have had so much evil and confusion have happened completely unbeknownst to me.
