Winter storm

This is our first winter back int he states and we have already seen more snow in one winter in the states than we ever did in the UK.  The five years we were in the the UK we probably shoveled snow once maybe twice and it was only for 1-2 inches tops.  This week we had our first real snow storm were we saw 10 inches of snow!  I have had to shovel snow 3 times times this week and I am longing for the winters of England;).

This is our driveway and the mailbox at the end of the road.  This picture was taken 4 hours after we had already shoveled out the first time.

we had 1-2 feet of snow drifts on the back deck.  I am wondering if we need to shovel this off too for safety.

The only good benefit of this snow is it counts as exercise!

The day before the storm my husband and I attempted to purchase a snow blower, but all the stores were sold out except for the super duper powered ones that cost an arm and a leg...I think next year we will buy one earlier in the year so we are better prepared.

It was -9 with a wind chill of -29.  My husband beard was frozen after being outside for 30 minutes.

A science experiment we have seen all over on Facebook that my kids wanted to try:)
First Daddy had to shovel a path on the deck--sorry about the pictures but we are directly in the sun at this side of the house

First we boiled water on the stove
Sorry about the pictures but we are facing in the sun here... First my husband had to clear a path on the back deck

Then we threw the hot water over the deck and watched as the hot water turned into steam before hitting the ground

It worked beautifully even if it is hard to tell.  The kids thought it was very cool.
We also saw this going around that we want to try but I don't have any bubbles in the house.  Looks pretty neat to do on a cold weather day:)

  1. Wow, you are getting hit hard. I need to call my daughter to see how they are doing. We have know but not that much. We did have a white Christmas which was sweet. In weather like this I just want to curl up by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book.
    I liked the experiments.
Blessings and stay warm you all~

  2. You have definitely got all the snow you missed while you were in England, and some! Hopefully you'll all make it through without losing your power or anything.
