This is the second time my children and I have participated, through Scouting, in the cleaning of the WWII grave stones at the Madingley American Cemetery. This was done in preparation for the memorial service to be held on Nov 11th. We consider it a great honor and privilege to do this for the men who died for our freedoms! It took us 2 hours but all the grave stones that needed cleaning were scrub clean:).

What a wonderful idea for a community service project. I imagine it allowed for some very interesting conversation starters, and a somber reminder of sacrifice as well.

ReplyDeleteVoted already:) for your field trip site!
What a neat field trip. Our troop always puts the flags out at the cemetery, but never even thought about cleaning the grave stones.

Awesome! What a great idea! I'll have to think more about Veteran's Day next year. It really should be more than just a "day off".
