Acropolis in Lindos

While on holiday we did take 2 excursions outside the hotel. The first one was to the Acropolis in Lindos. It was beautiful and I hope my pictures gives the place justice.

View from the road driving into Lindos. The Acropolis was built in 300 B.C. The outside walls were built by the Knights of St. John around 1370.

Here at the bottom is the Greek amphitheater.

The kids took a donkey ride up to the top of the Acropolis while my husband and I walked behind:)

City streets of Lindos on our way to the top of the Acropolis

Close up view of the city walls

Trireme boat carving on the main wall.

View from inside the city wall looking out over the Aegean sea.

View of the mid level of the Acropolis

Picture of the old and new wall. The Greek government is trying to rebuild some portions of the Acropolis

The reconstructed pillars of the Acropolis

There is a mixture of old stones and new stones in these pillars can you tell which is which?

Inside one of the buildings, filled with broken columns and old stones.

An olive tree growing inside the Acropolis!

View of the city of Lindos from the top of the Acropolis.

I can't begin to tell you how amazing it was to walk these steps and be there to see this amazing place.

I am linking this post up to the Let's Hit the Road - Field trip hop.

  1. Can't wait to show my kids these photos since we are studying Ancient Greece now! A trip like this would be incredible for our family, but I'll have to settle on touring the world through your blog :) Glad you were able to see such amazing sites! Clicked a vote for you! :)

  3. Just incredible! Are there a lot of donkeys in Greece? It seems like everyone I know who has gone to Greece has a donkey picture or story to tell.
