For the last several weeks we have been learning about Claude Monet. First, we began with reviewing the lesson on Meet the Masters which is a online art program. Next we read the book Getting to know the world's greatest artists by Mike Venezia. I found a great book at our library called Linnia in Monet's Garden by Cristina Bjork. It is excellent and I highly recommend it.
Then the kids and I completed the art assignments. First we identified the color wheel. My kids have already done this so it was easy for them. We identified primary, secondary and tertiary colors.
Next we started on the main art project assignment
Each of us cut out a stencil of a vase and lined it up on our canvas.
Then using q-tips we began to add dots of color to fill in the entire stencil.
Next the children added leaves and flowers to the vase. Our paint palette only included the primary colors, white, brown and a tiny bit of black. The purpose was to mix colors just like Claude Monet would have done to get the right color.
In order to get the color green the children had to mix it, while I encouraged the kids to do their mixing on their palette they preferred to do it on their canvas, which meant no room for errors.
The finished art work...Ta da....
Little Man's he has titled it "Sprout at night" While I kept telling little man black was used very sparingly in Impressionist art he insisted on using it... and lots of it:)

My attempt, not sure why I chose a pink vase with orange flowers.
I had a second Monet art project that I wanted us to do but after nearly a week of mishaps I have yet to get it accomplished. I am hoping we will do it soon. However check out The Crafty Classroom for this great and easy Monet style of the Japanese bridge.
This is awesome! Thank you so much for linking up! I "pinned" it on our Pinterest board.
ReplyDeleteSo funny, honestly, I am doing art more now because of Pinterest and yesterday we did art and then I was looking at these books by Mike Venezia and put two on hold at the library!!!

ReplyDeleteI should but in our tiny rental house there is no where to put them. I am for now keeping them in a box and maybe we can hang them up when we return to our own house in 2 years.:)
